Packard Park Beach in South Haven is a great choice for an outing.

Here's why: Beauty and convenience without the crowds.

There are many reasons Parkard Park and Beach Access may be a good fit for your family outing, whether you're a group of 2 or 20.

It works particularly well if there's a picnic in your beach plans and is very convenient if you have members of your group with accessibility concerns.

Our photo below has been featured in Budget Travel's July 2011 write up on "Secret Beaches"!

Packard Beach, South Haven Beaches

Packard Park and beach has a quieter feel to it than the larger South Haven beaches such as North Beach and South Beach. You have most of the conveniences of the larger beaches with a little more of a private "cast away" feeling.

It's easy to get to (see directions below), and has ample parking for both metered parking (25 cents for 15 minutes, $1 per hour) and also non-metered for those with beach stickers or who wish to pay the daily parking rate of $5.

The park itself is a large grassy area in close proximity to the parking. There are picnic tables, grills, and restrooms. After your picnic, you can walk down the short stairway nearby for an after-dinner walk on the beach.

Another nice thing about Packard Park is the accessible tables that are set up on the wooden observation platform that's very near the parking lot. This is a great beach viewing area for people who are not physically able to negotiate the stairs or walk on the beach.
